ADA compliance with medical exam chairs - Wilburn Medical Supply
New ADA accessibility requirements
The U.S. Access Board has released new ADA accessibility requirements for medical diagnostic equipment, including exam chairs used in primary care, specialty care, and diagnostic settings. These standards emphasize independent patient transfer, safe positioning, and compatibility with patient-handling equipment.
To help you stay ahead of these requirements, we have partnered with Midmark—the industry leader in accessible exam and procedure chairs—to offer two fully compliant models: Midmark 631 and Midmark 626. Both options are engineered to enhance accessibility, support staff safety, and provide an improved patient experience.
Why This Matters — Understanding the New ADA Standards
The ADA U.S. Access Board accessibility standards for medical diagnostic equipment (MDE) require that examination chairs used for diagnostic purposes must include design and operational features that allow a person with a disability to independently transfer onto the examination chair.
We Are Here to Help.

Exam Chair Trade-in Program Saves you Money & makes a difference in Critical Need Areas
Upgrade your exam chairs. Elevate patient care everywhere.
As healthcare providers prepare for the new ADA accessibility requirements, Midmark is making it easier—and more impactful—to upgrade outdated exam chairs. Through the Exam Chair Rebate & Trade-In Program, eligible chairs can be traded in for a credit toward your new Midmark equipment.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Every qualifying chair you trade in is refurbished and donated to clinics, through a partnership to World Vision, around the world where essential medical equipment is scarce or nonexistent. These chairs go on to support caregivers who are treating patients in rooms with bare floors, delivering babies without proper equipment, and serving communities with limited resources.
By upgrading now, you’re not only improving accessibility and independence for your patients—you’re giving another patient across the globe a safer, more dignified healthcare experience.
